Challenge Edition – Pune 2013



Office is one place which might not be our personal favourite on a Sunday morning. However November 17th was different, with an enviable get together of 1500 fitness enthusiasts at TCS Sahyadri Park, Pune.

Punekars witnessed the spirit of fitness when TCS Pune organized -“TCS Fit4life Corporate Challenge – Run Miles & Bring Smiles” to instill a culture of wellness amongst associates, promote solidarity amongst teams and contribute towards an honorable social cause as an organization. The participants gathered at 6 AM in the morning at TCS Sahyadri Park Campus in Hinjewadi Phase III in the picturesque Sahyadri hills in the background and thumping music.

The TCS Fit4life Corporate Challenge was a five mile run open to Corporates and their employees across Pune, where teams participated with a minimum size of four members with a recommendation of at least one woman participant. The Corporates came together to contribute towards the social cause with laudable enthusiasm. The response from corporates was overwhelming, with 38 companies participating in the Run and total registration count of 1500. The event also was supported 14 partners who used it as a platform to support the runners with their products and services.

The event began with the flag off by Major General Ravindranath Soni, Head of the Southern Command Pune with Milind Lakkad, Vice President Manufacturing, TCS. Mr. Digge, Plant Head Tata Motors, Mr. Pataki, Vice President Tata Motors, Rahul Sabnis, National Head – Human Resources Baja Financial Services, Mr. Anand Zutshi, Associate Vice President – Kotak Mahindra Bank and Mr. Parag Pendharkar, Direct Quality – PTC Software (I) Pvt. Ltd amongst the running contingent. The runner’s were accompanied by a TCS Pilot Vehicle, 06 Enthusiast Cyclists and 08 Bikers, ensuring a hassle free running experience for the lead runners.

The event saw high levels of competitiveness amongst regular runners and had some thrilling moments at the finish line. The first prize for Men’s and Women’s category was won by Team Sungard, with an expatriate from Sweden Mr. Richard Asplunt (Finishing the Race in 32 Minutes and 11 Seconds) and Ms. Aparna Choudhary (Finishing the race in 44 Minutes) winning the race respectively.

All participants, upon reaching the finishers like, were given a finishers Medal by the kids of TCS Family members. After the run, the stage was set ablaze by the TCSer “DJ Paul”, TCS Band “Antrix” and Dance club.

TCS Fit4life Corporate Challenge – Run Miles & Bring Smiles was a roaring success with passionate levels of interest from all associates and partners. The tremendous success of the run has demonstrated the commitment of TCS to make a difference to the community in which we live and work, upholding the Tata group’s philosophy of contributing to social causes.

Dr. Priyadarshini Kulkarni, Director – Cipla Palliative Care and Training Centre, Pune shared her insights on Palliative Care and urged participants to pay visit to their centre and to spread the awareness towards Palliative Care.

Each participating corporates had the choice of contributing the prize money to their charity Partners of choice; however most of the corporates have consented to donate to the TCS Charity partner – Cipla Palliative Care and Training Centre.

At the end a total of Rs 1, 90,000 was contributed to Charity.Rs 1.25 Lakh was given to Cipla Palliative Care and Training Centre ,Pune (Winners share from Sungard and Persistent),Rs 50,000 was given to NFB Jagriti School for Blind Girls (Winners share from Tata Motors),Rs 15,000 was given to Prayatna for People with Special Needs (Winners share from Amdocs) respectively.

TCS valued and recognized the meritorious contribution of   Cipla Palliative Care and Training Centre , Pune   by handing over a donation of Rs 5, 00,000/- towards the noble effort of serving the society and spreading the awareness about Palliative Care in general public.
