The wintry morning of 13th January, 2019 was charged with energy and excitement as the 6th Edition of TCS Fit4life Corporate Challenge commenced at the majestic Eco Park in Kolkata. The enthusiasm was evident as participants started trickling in and filling up the venue much before sunrise, notwithstanding the chill in the air. The runners ranged from seasoned marathoners to first-timers, all dedicated to the cause of promoting a healthy and fitter way of life.

The TCS Fit4life Corporate Challenge celebrating its 6th year in 2019, has established itself as one of the most eagerly awaited 10K runs in Kolkata. The annual extravaganza had a special significance this year in light of celebration of 50th anniversary of Tata Consultancy Services. The event this year saw enthusiastic participation of 2187 runners comprising of 1367 participants from TCS and 820 participants from 66 corporates, as they joined together in their efforts to promote fitness and social upliftment through the platform of TCS Fit4life.

This year, we were honored to have renowned golfer – Mr. Indrajit Bhalotia as our Chief Guest for the event who spoke on the importance of fitness in our daily lives and encouraged participants to chase their fitness goals.

Following a dash of Zumba to pump up the energy levels of the runners, the marathon started at 6:30AM with the Chief Guest and dignitaries enthusiastically flagging off the participants. The runners made their way around the expansive and scenic locale of Eco Park as they covered 10KMs and returned to the venue to complete the race. The ambient weather conditions continued to be comfortable right till the last runner crossed the gantry.

The 1st position in the male category was claimed by Pintu Gupta from NRIFT, the 2nd by Sandeep Sengupta from TCS while the 3rd position was bagged by Bappa Mondal from Dynamic Digital Technology. In the female category, the podium finishes went to Anjali Saraogi from Medstar Clinic, Rakhi Majumdar from TCS and Nilanjana Mitra from NRIFT for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions respectively.

In the group prizes, the trophies for Highest Number of Participants by a Corporate as well as the Highest Number of Female Participants by a Corporate both went to IBM.

TCS made a significant contribution to the charity partner for the event – TATA Medical Centre, to support their charitable endeavors.

Mr. Suresh Menon, Vice President & General Manager – Eastern Region, concluded the event with a vote of thanks to the participants and organizers for their enthusiasm in making the event a grand success.

TCS has always strived towards creating a healthier workforce and a more impactful Corporate Sustainability program. Through this event, we go beyond our own organization to include other corporates in Kolkata on this journey. Cancer is a global killer that takes no prisoners, that does not discriminate when it comes to victims. But this deadliest of medical conditions extracts a far greater price – in the toll it takes on human lives and places a big burden on the families and communities. Populous countries such as India, today have to cope with more than three million cancer patients and this number keeps growing. To provide these people access to world class Cancer Care, the Tata Medical Centre Trust was formed in 2005. This Trust led the new project in Kolkata with help from the Tata Memorial Centre, Mumbai, and built the Tata Medical Center on nearly 14 acres of land at New Town, Rajarhat area of Kolkata. It commenced operations from May 16, 2011.The Tata Medical Center is a comprehensive Cancer Care Center with well-trained professionals and is equipped with world class facilities and the most contemporary medical equipment. The Center provides a wide spectrum of services from Diagnosis, Therapy to Rehabilitation and Palliative support in cancer. Efforts are on to add Preventive services in the near future. Set up at a cost of 540 Crores TMC, Kolkata is a not-for-profit initiative that is aimed specifically at helping cancer patients from the East and North East of India and also from adjacent countries like Bangladesh, Bhutan and Nepal. The Hospital, with a present capacity of 183 beds serves all sections of the Society and offers very subsidized treatment for the underprivileged sections. Over the past 7 plus years more than 1 lakh new cancer patients and nearly 9 lakh follow up patients have been treated here till now. To manage the increasing patient load another 254 In-Patient beds with many other new facilities are being added and will get operational by this year end.
