TCS is associated with TATA Medical Center Trust for this event.

To be a not—for-profit, state-of-the-art, tertiary care oncology centre, that will provide world-class affordable treatment for patients with cancer.

TMC’s mission is to promote prevention, early diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and care for cancer patients.

The Indian Cancer Registry reveals that maximum number of specific cancers in India come from East and North-East India.

The Tata Medical Center, Kolkata a Rs. 800 crore, world class, not-for-profit hospital, stands as a beacon of hope for cancer patients.

Set up by the Tata Group, it is one of the Tata Group’s big philanthropic initiatives which engages in providing healthcare services to the community in the area of cancer treatment.

The Tata Group has always believed in returning wealth to the Society it serves and the Tata Medical Center stands as a true testimonial of this fact where almost half of the beds are reserved for treatment of underprivileged patients.

Mr. Ratan Tata inaugurated this hospital on 16th May 2011, funded entirely by one of the largest endowment from the Tata Trusts despite a plethora of philanthropic commitments across the country.

Tata Medical Center, Kolkata currently houses 437 beds with the most modern diagnostic and treatment facilities. The hospital has already treated more than 1,00,000 patients and performed almost 25,000 surgeries till date. A team of 240 specialist doctors, 440 nurses and other technical staff work selflessly to provide treatment to the thousands of patients streaming in every month.

The Tata Medical Center has since its inception provided cancer care to thousands of patients in Eastern India. The hospital is a beacon of hope for patients in the region who otherwise had to travel to different cities in the country seeking treatment. Long periods of stay away from home during the Course of treatment had become a huge financial burden to many families adding to the misery and suffering. Many a time patients abandon treatment unable to withstand such pressures.

The need is to provide a best in class cancer care facility to cancer patients in eastern India without it being a huge financial burden to the patients who are already stressed with battling the disease.

Cancer is a global killer that takes no prisoners, that does not discriminate when it comes to victims. But this deadliest of medical conditions extracts a far greater price – in the toll it takes on human lives and places a big burden on the families and communities. Populous countries such as India, today have to cope with more than three million cancer patients and this number keeps growing. To provide these people access to world class Cancer Care, the Tata Medical Centre Trust was formed in 2005. This Trust led the new project in Kolkata with help from the Tata Memorial Centre, Mumbai, and built the Tata Medical Center on nearly 14 acres of land at New Town, Rajarhat area of Kolkata. It commenced operations from May 16, 2011.The Tata Medical Center is a comprehensive Cancer Care Center with well-trained professionals and is equipped with world class facilities and the most contemporary medical equipment. The Center provides a wide spectrum of services from Diagnosis, Therapy to Rehabilitation and Palliative support in cancer. Efforts are on to add Preventive services in the near future. Set up at a cost of 540 Crores TMC, Kolkata is a not-for-profit initiative that is aimed specifically at helping cancer patients from the East and North East of India and also from adjacent countries like Bangladesh, Bhutan and Nepal. The Hospital, with a present capacity of 183 beds serves all sections of the Society and offers very subsidized treatment for the underprivileged sections. Over the past 7 plus years more than 1 lakh new cancer patients and nearly 9 lakh follow up patients have been treated here till now. To manage the increasing patient load another 254 In-Patient beds with many other new facilities are being added and will get operational by this year end.
