“Forget the miles, just remember the glory”
It was Saturday morning of 24 February, 2018 when Ahmedavdis were all geared up for the much awaited 5th Edition of “TCS Fit4life Corporate Challenge 2018” – Run Miles & Bring Smiles…The run for which everyone has been preparing since last few months to give their best performance. There was an enormous participation of more than 3044 participants registering from 90 corporates.
Participants with full zest had gathered at Riverfront – the run venue, very well in advance early in the morning. The hosts for the event Ms. Vrunda Deota and Mr. Tirth Mathuria welcomed everyone for the run guiding the run rules and safety measures. Mr. Philip, the Zumba trainer of TATA Striders kick started the event with his warm up session for all the participants for a quick and simple routine stretch to help the participants run right, this was followed by National Anthem. As it ended, the countdown for the 10K run began. Mr. Rajasekar Rajendran, the fastest TCSer in Mumbai Marathon and winner of Kochi Corporate challenge flagged off the run.
The view of the participants running in unison wearing TCS Fit4life Tees with their personalized Bibs was a sight to everyone’s eye. All were seen running, walking and jogging beside the beautiful riverside. A trendy Tata Nexon was also driving ahead of the runners as a pilot, projecting the run time. There were sights of participants motivating other runners by tapping on their back to finish the run. In between the track, four hydration points were put up to keep participants hydrated. Ambulances from Apollo Hospitals was also keeping pace with the runners to handle any medical emergency and there were Physiotherapy center set up for the runners to settle down post the run. A Shoe Donation drive was also planned to support Paryavaran Mitra, a humble endeavor to uplift the rag-picking women of India to help them earn with dignity and respect. It received high encouragement and support from the participants.
It was just 34 minutes and 54 seconds when the first runner, Mr. Srikant Yadav from Space Applications Centre completed the 10K run followed by Mr. Haraksingh Karki from Compass Group and Mr. Nobi A I from Sadbhav Hospitals. There was a tough completion in women category as well, where Ms. Sheetal Harajibhai Vaniya from Space Applications Centre took 52 minutes 15 seconds, followed by Ms. Reni Jinu from CEAT Ltd. and Ms. Khushali Purohit from Apttus Software. As the runners reached the finish line, a pride of completing the run successfully was seen on their faces. Many of the runners were clicking selfies flaunting their medals. They also shared their feedback on a Graffiti Wall. Each of the runners completing the run beaming with energy had a success story to share.
Similar to warm up exercise, cool down exercise was performed in the form of Zumba by all the participants. The Chief Guest Dr. Shamsher Singh, Additional Director General of Police, IPS, Gujarat ; a running enthusiast himself who recently accomplished 161 KM Marathon in 39 hours at Rann of Kutch and Mr. Hasit Kaji, Vice President & Branch Head, TCS Gujarat, gave away the prizes to the winners and the runners-up. Dr. Shamsher Singh shared his experience and success mantras. TCS donated 5 Lakhs Rupees to event’s charity partner: Agastya International Foundation, which engages in enhancing science education amongst children. Mr. Chirag Jain, regional HR Head of TCS Ahmedabad shared Vote of Thanks to all the corporates, participants, Striders, sponsors and the organizing team for the wonderful execution of the event. Lastly, there was an electrifying flash mob by the Dance Club members of TCS Maitree. On this high note of zeal and energy, the event concluded with a commitment of a year of health and fitness.
